"Hindus have sent greetings to Jewish communities world over for Jewish New Year of Rosh ha-Shanah, celebrations for which will be held during September 8-10.
Noted Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a release in Nevada (USA) today, expressed warmest greetings on the upcoming Rosh ha-Shanah, wishing happiness, health, peace, joy, prosperity, blessings and good times to all the Jews. 'Shana Tova Umetukah' (which is Hebrew for 'A Good and Sweet Year'), he added.
Rajan Zed, who is the President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed that all religions should work together for a just and peaceful world. Dialogue would bring us mutual enrichment, he added.
This festival is known by four names: Rosh ha-Shanah, Yom Teru’ah (Day of Blowing the Horn), Yom ha-Din (Day of Judgment), and Yom ha-Zikkaron (Day of Remembrance). It also commemorates the creation of the world and includes prayers, shofar (horn) blowing, resting, etc. Traditional/symbolic foods eaten include apples, honey, round challah bread, dates, black-eyed beans, leek, spinach, pomegranates, gourd, etc. It is followed by a day of fasting.
Judaism is a monotheistic religion of world’s about 14 million Jews whose most sacred text is Torah. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal." (source)
