Whether they believe their Qur'an permits it should not be a reason to feel you have the right to beat anyone including your wife, what if the Qur'an stated that it is alright to rape women, then according to them it would be acceptable behaviour to do this whenever and where ever they choose, this is not only ridiculous, it is uncivilized, extremely backward and no matter what Allah tells you to do, this is one of the many things that should be disagreed upon...
I have serious doubts that Allah expects any of them to believe it is alright to beat their wives, I do believe it is merely a misinterpretation of written texts which have been twisted to allow the man to be the dominant one in the relationship and so this allows him to keep that control over women... I have met far smarter and more compassionate women than men in my life, I would prefer they were the dominant one's in any situation...
To think it is ok for a man to beat his wife is backward and shows the weakness of the Muslim men, which is sad... The Muslim women are far stronger people as they have to put up with this abuse constantly...
