(NEWS) Indio Man Accused Of Threatening "Beat The Jew" Game Whistleblower

"An 18-year-old Indio man was arrested today on suspicion of making threats against a La Quinta High School student who complained about a game that a group of teens played off campus called 'Beat the Jew.'

Andrue Purdy was taken into custody about 8 a.m. and released this afternoon after posting $25,000 bail, according to jail records.

Purdy is accused of making threats against a female student 'complaining about the 'Beat the Jew' game,' Riverside County sheriff's Lt. Jason Huskey said.

Huskey said the threats were allegedly made online to the girl a week after the game was reported to authorities.

Deputies served a search warrant about 7 a.m. in the 47000 block of Half Moon Court, where they seized evidence following four months of investigation, according to sheriff's Sgt. John Crounse.

The game -- which involves players, called 'Nazis,' chasing and trying to capture a runner designated as a 'Jew' -- came to the attention of authorities when seven La Quinta students played it off campus and after school.

Around 40 students were members of a Facebook group dedicated to the game, but not all of them were directly involved, an official at the Desert Sands Unified School District said previously.

Investigators determined no hate crime was committed by the game-players." (source)
