(NEWS) Shooting Attack: 2 IDF Border Guard Officers Wounded

"Passengers traveling in Mazda 626 pass Border Guard vehicle near Qalansawe, open fire on officers.

Gunshots were fired Monday at a team of Border Guard officers traveling in a vehicle along a road between Qalansawe and Tayibe.

A Border Guard officer and one of his subordinates were lightly wounded.

Police have launched an investigation. However, it is not yet unclear whether the attack was criminally or nationalistically motivated.

The police team traveled along the road when a Mazda 626 passed their vehicle and its passengers opened fire before fleeing the scene.

A Magen David Adom first responder crew was dispatched to the site and treated the two wounded soldiers, later evacuating them to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba.

Police forces closed off the area where the shooting took place and have started collecting evidence and taking testimonies. The police said that the motive for the shooting remains unclear and that the officers were on an undercover operation and thus were dressed in plainclothes.

According to initial estimates, the shooters the officers belonged to the Border Guard and followed the car for some time before opening fire." (source)
