(TECH) Israels Mellanox Supports US Super Computer

"Israel's Mellanox Technologies, a leading supplier of high-performance, end-to-end connectivity solutions for data center servers and storage systems, recently announced that its InfiniBand is enabling the University of Colorado at Boulder to broaden research for biotech and earth and life sciences.

The Mellanox 40Gb/s InfiniBand Adapter and Switch-Based Compute and Storage System supports research into climate change and quick response to severe weather occurrences.

Located in Yokneam in central Israel, Mellanox's connectivity products are providing the server and storage networking for the new University of Colorado's Dell-based 1,368-node cluster. The new cluster ranks #31 on the June 2010 TOP500 list of supercomputers with peak performance of 152Tflops and an efficiency rating of 86 percent.

According to Marc Sultzbaugh, vice president of worldwide sales at Mellanox Technologies: "Through the University of Colorado at Boulder, scientists are gaining access to high-performance computational facilities to improve human understanding of life science and Earth system processes.

'By incorporating Mellanox end-to-end 40Gb/s networking, the University of Colorado at Boulder provides scientists with faster and more detailed climate modeling, as well as the means for emergency response teams to quickly react to dangerous weather phenomena.'" (source)
