(NEWS) Mass Grave From Holocaust-Era Discovered In Romania

"Find in forest northeast of Bucharest contains bodies of men, women, children shot in 1941; police seal off area to public.

A Holocaust-era mass grave containing the bodies of an estimated 100 Jews killed by Romanian troops has been discovered in a forest, researchers said Friday, offering further evidence of the country's involvement in wartime crimes.

The find in a forest near the town of Popricani, about 350 kilometers (220 kilometers) northeast of Bucharest, contains the bodies of men, women and children who were shot in 1941, the Elie Wiesel National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania said in a statement."





(NEWS) New Jewish Community Center Opens In Romania

"A new Jewish community center opened in Romania.

The JCC that opened Oct. 10 in Timisoara is the fourth to open in Romania to serve the country's nearly 10,000 Jews. The others are located in Bucharest, Oradea and Iasi.

The opening included a celebration for about 300 guests and an after party for local Jewish youth

The Timisoara JCC is a joint project of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and The Federation of Jewish Communities of Romania. The center will serve between 600 and 800 Jewish residents of Timisoara, as well as more from several surrounding communities." (source)



(MED) Israeli Doctors Arrive In Romania To Treat Babies Burned In Hospital Fire

"Seven premature babies were in critical condition after a fire in an intensive care unit at a Bucharest hospital, in which four babies died.

Israeli doctors who rushed to Romania on Wednesday said they feared there was not much they could do to help seven premature infants who were critically burned in a hospital fire that left four other babies dead.

Romanian doctors at Bucharest's Grigore Alexandrescu children's hospital where the injured babies are being treated said the infants weigh just 1 to 2.5 kilograms (2.2 to 5.5 pounds) and are burned on up to 80 percent of their bodies and respiratory tracts."





(NEWS) Israeli Doctors To Help Romanian Babies

"Four infants killed, 7 seriously injured in intensive care unit fire.

A team of 10 Israeli doctors arrived in Romania Wednesday to treat seven premature babies who are in critical condition after a fire in an intensive care unit at a Bucharest hospital in which four other babies died.

Romanian doctors at the Grigore Alexandrescu children's hospital where the injured babies are being treated said the infants weigh just 1-2.5 kilograms (2.2 to 5.5 pounds) and have up to 80 percent burns on their bodies and respiratory tracts."



(NEWS) Romania Will Stand By Israel In Event Of Conflict With Iran

"Romanian President Traian Basescu tells President Shimon Peres his country will stand by Israel if it attacks Iran.

Romania's president said Thursday his country will be a loyal partner of Israel and NATO in the event of a conflict with Iran, but added that he hopes the dispute can be solved through diplomacy and sanctions.

'We hope that the sanctions imposed by the Security Council of the U.N. will create the correct solution in Tehran, not digging graves for American soldiers but starting transparent negotiations,' said President Traian Basescu standing next to Israeli President Shimon Peres who is on an official visit to Romania."



(NEWS) IAF: Emergency Landing In Romania

"Two Yasour helicopters experience technical problems; no casualties.

Two Israeli helicopters sought an emergency landing due to technical problems in Romania Tuesday, after last week's fatal helicopter crash which killed six IAF servicemen and a Romanian observer.

Romanian Police said they received an emergency call from residents of nearby villages, and sent rescue forces to the area. No casualties were reported in the incident."



(NEWS) Hundreds Mourn Fallen Airmen

"Six IAF servicemen killed in Romania helicopter crash laid to rest.

Hundreds of mourners attended the funerals Friday of the six Israeli Air Force servicemen killed during a training exercise in Romania earlier this week.

The bodies of the fallen airmen killed in Monday's Yasour helicopter crash in the Carpathian Mountains were brought to Tel Nof air base earlier Friday. The funerals of the fallen soldiers were held at various military cemeteries throughout Friday."

"Lieutenant Colonel (res.) Avner Goldman just turned 48 last week and got to celebrate it with his wife, Orit. His wife said, “He was a smart man, a good person, the best husband I could have asked for. I told the kids, ‘At least he didn’t suffer. Until the very last moment, he had a smile on his face.’ We were privileged to have a wonderful husband and father, an amazing person.” Avner also leaves behind him four children, ages 22, 18, 16, and 13.

Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Shipenbauer was born in Uruguay and made aliyah to Israel with his family when he was 6 yeas old. As he kid he was an enthusiastic soccer player and stayed a devoted fan, taking his children to matches every week. During the second Lebanon war he was promoted to head of his squadron. His friends describes him as a very honest, modest, and hard working individual that despite his tough exterior was a very sensitive soul. Having been in the squadron for the last 20 years, he had the chance to mentor almost every new pilot that was trained. Daniel is survived by his wife, Yael, and three children – Amit, 16, Roee, 12, and Yonatan, 8.

Major Lior Shai was born and raised in Ramat Hasharon near Tel Aviv. According to his mother, he never seriously thought he would be a pilot, being just as interested as studying electrical engineering at Tel Aviv University as remaining with the Yasurim squadron. Still, he was ecstatic for the opportunity to fly. He leaves behind his wife, Tamar, and their four-month-old baby.

Major Yahel Keshet was born and raised in the moshav Sharona in the lower Galilee, and was currently residing in the Hatzerim air base before the crash. He was the pride of the whole moshav. While he originally wanted to serve in the commandos as his father did, after passing the cadets course he quickly rose the ranks of the Israeli Air Force. He was only two weeks away from being promoted to deputy squadron commander. Yahel is survived by his wife, Hofit, and two children – Harel, 2, and Ofri, two-months old.He was a quiet man, devoted to his family, his wife Hofit and their children, Harel, 2, and Ofri, two-months old. He loved volunteering and helping the community, working to help underprivileged youth and new immigrants from Ethiopia. His hobbies were traveling and tracking, diving, snowboarding and playing guitar.

Staff Sergeant Oren Cohen served in the very same squadron as his father before him. His friends describe him as a brilliant man, he knows his job very well and he picked on new things faster than anyone else” said his friend Oren Dunai. He said Cohen was a supporting and fun loving friend – “there was not a single thing in the world you couldn’t have talked to him about – rock music or quantum mechanics – Oren knew it all, and he was always fun to be around”

Lieutenant Nir Lakrif “was an example of excellence for many. He completed his studies at Air Force technical school with honors, enlisted, and completed his training as a mechanic, a position he chose together with a select group of people who are the pride of the Air Force and the State of Israel. This was also the position he filled during this exercise,” said his uncle. He would have been celebrating his 25th birthday on August 3rd. August was also suppose to mark his first year anniversary of his marriage to Maggie, who is four months pregnant. He will never get to meet his child.

Captain Stefan-Claudiu Dragnea was a member of Romania’s Air Force. He was 31 years old. His wife is five months pregnant. (source)

My Opinion

These are truly sad pictures to see of our soldiers who protect us, please say a prayer for each and every one of them as well as for their families...

May they rest in peace, may their families recover from the pain and live a long life...

(IDF) Video & Pics: IDF Search Team Delegation Leaves Romania For Israel

"A number of Yasur (CH-53) helicopters departed from the Romanian crash site to return back to Israel with some of the IDF search team members.

The delegation will leave over the course of the next couple of days in a gradual manner.

In addition, a Hercules transport plane left Romania to carry remaining equpment left at the scene and refuel the Yasur helicopters on their way back to Israel.

An IAF Boeing airplane has departed Israel for an air force base in Romania in order to return the coffins of the IAF crew who were killed in the helicopter crash.

(NEWS) IDF Unit 669 Braves Rain, Darkness, Terrain In Romania

"'We are used to saving lives, and this is not our typical mission.'

The Sikorsky CH-53 Yasour helicopters warmed up their engines and at 6 a.m. took off from the Romanian Air Force base, near the city of Boboc, to the Carpathian Mountains to bring their comrades home.

Before boarding, the commander of the Israel Air Force elite search-and-rescue Unit 669, Lt.-Col. A., gathered his troops and gave one last briefing."
