"Kurds in northern Iraq are reaching out to a group of people with whom they believe share a historic ethnic connection, and many common enemies. You guessed it, it’s us.

It’s early morning in Irbil, capital of Iraqi Kurdistan. A few men gather around a small kiosk where dozens of newspapers and magazines in Arabic and Kurdish are carefully arranged on a piece of cloth on the ground.

The camera zooms in and concentrates on one of the men, who holds a glossy magazine with a large Magen David on the cover. This is not another illustration to an article about Israeli policies in Gaza and West Bank. The title is 'Israel-Kurd' and the whole edition is dedicated to relations between the Kurdish nation and the State of Israel."

"Yesterday, Der Spiegel published a report indicating that Turkey used chemical weapons against Kurdish rebels.

German experts have confirmed the authenticity of photographs that purport to show PKK fighters killed by chemical weapons. The evidence puts increasing pressure on the Turkish government, which has long been suspected of using such weapons against Kurdish rebels. German politicians are demanding an investigation.

It would be difficult to exceed the horror shown in the photos, which feature burned, maimed and scorched body parts. The victims are scarcely even recognizable as human beings. Turkish-Kurdish human rights activists believe the people in the photos are eight members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) underground movement, who are thought to have been killed in September 2009."

The report, which is based on a report published over the weekend, claims German experts have examined and confirmed the photographs' authenticity.

According to the report, the horrifying images show burned, maimed and scorched body parts. Kurdish human rights activists believe the people in the photos are eight members of the PKK underground, who were killed in clashes with the Turkish military in September 2009."

On March 21, 2010, the Syrian security forces opened fire with live ammunition on a crowd of 5,000 in the northern Syrian town of al-Raqqah. The crowd had gathered to celebrate the Kurdish festival of Nowruz. Three people, including a 15-year-old girl, were killed. Over 50 were injured. Dozens of injured civilians were held incommunicado by the authorities following the events. Some remain incarcerated. This incident was just one example of the repression taking place of the largest national minority in Syria – namely, the Syrian Kurdish population.

Kurds constitute 9 percent-10% of the population of Syria – that is, around 1.75 million in a total population of 22 million. Since the rise of militant Arab nationalism to power in Damascus, they have faced an ongoing campaign for their dissolution as a community."

"The Turkish press reported on Monday that security forces shot dead two villagers gathering herbs in northern Kurdistan after mistaking them for Kurdish resistance fighters.

According to the state-run Anatolian news agency, the killings coincided with an increase in rebel activity by Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) guerrillas against Turkish military targets.

The villagers were collecting thyme when security forces opened fire at Hassa in Hatay province, the agency said without specifying when the killings took place. A third villager was reportedly wounded in the incident."

"The United States is taking sides with Turkey on the issue of the Kurdish struggle for freedom.

Kurdish rebels blew up a military bus in Istanbul on Wednesday, killing four people in a daring attack likely to intensify the conflict between Turkish occupation forces and Kurdish resistance fighters. The attack came in the wake of a violent weekend in which 12 Turkish soldiers and policemen were killed by Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) guerrillas, who have recently stepped up resistance efforts in areas of northern Kurdistan currently occupied by Turkey."
