(NEWS) One Million Latin Americans Demand Shalit's Release

"Within three weeks a Brazilian based pro Israel organization, AMISRAEL, was able to collect one million signatures from Latin American citizens of all persuasions demanding the release of captive Israel soldiers Gilad Schalit, who has been held by Hamas in Gaza for over four years.

The petitioners have called on former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva,who has connections to Iran, to become directly involved in efforts to free the young man.

Half a million signatures were collected from Mexico; followed by support from Columbia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela, Brazil, Guatemala, Argentina, Peru, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rice, Paraguay, Panama and Porto Rico.

The organizations plans to continue to collect signatures. It is also possible that the organization would ask Vice Premier Silvan Shalom to present the signatures to da Silva." (source)



(BIZ) Israel Corp Unit To Raise Stake In Peru Power Company

"According to Israel Corp., Edegel is the largest power producer in Peru.

Israel Corporation (TASE: ILCO) holding Inkia Energy Ltd. will raise its stake in Edegel from 14% to about 25%, in a three stage process.



According to Israel Corp., Edegel is the largest power producer in Peru, with generating capacity of 1,700 megawatts. Edegel has seven hydroelectric power plants, and seven thermoelectric plants.

Edegel is a public company, traded on the Lima stock exchange.

The first step is a purchase offer which regulators in Peru limited to 3.47% of the public's shares. The precise company valuation will be set by regulators. If the offer is accepted in full, at the current share prices, the offer will be worth $47 million.

A second phase of the transaction involves buying 6.4% of Edegel shares from a third party, for $50 million. This represents using a right of refusal that Inkia has.

Lastly, the company has also offered another Edegel shareholder buy its entire 0.4% stake in Edegel." (source)



(NEWS) Israeli Parachuter Killed In Peru

"Doron Lugasi died in a hospital after slamming into a mountain.

Doron Lugasi, a 39-year-old Israeli, was killed in a parachuting competition in Peru Saturday after crashing into a mountain, Israel Radio reported.

According to Peruvian media, Lugasi participated in a championship parachuting competition in the city of Huancayo. He was slammed into a mountain slope by strong wind gusts and was severely injured by the impact. The medical teams' efforts to reach him were prolonged as result of his location, which delayed his evacuation to a local hospital. He later died of his injuries while at the hospital."
