(VIDEO) Documentary: The Forgotten Jewish Refugees Of Arab States

Up to one million Jews have been forced to flee from Arab countries and hundreds of Jewish communities have been ethnically cleansed throughout this century. Most of these refugees now live in Israel and their old homes are no more. In fact, Jews who immigrated to Israel from Arab and Muslim lands and their descendants constitute about 50% of Jewish Israelis.

In the history of the Arab-Israel conflict, the United Nations have made 687 resolutions about the conflict. 101 of these resolutions dealt with the issue of refugees. It is astonishing to know that NOT ONE SINGLE resolution deals with the issue of Jewish refugees from Arab countries.

All 101 resolutions are about Palestinian refugees only. This is the hypocrisy of the United Nations.

This is a documentary named "The Forgotten Refugees".

It is a film about the mass exodus of Jews from the Middle East and North Africa in the 20th century.

The Forgotten Refugees explores the history, culture, and forced exodus of Middle Eastern and North African Jewish communities in the second half of the 20th century. Using extensive testimony of refugees from Egypt, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, and Morocco the film recounts the stories - of joy and suffering - that nearly one million individuals have carried with them for so long.

The film weaves personal stories with dramatic archival footage of rescue missions, historic images of exodus and resettlement, and analyses by contemporary scholars to tell the story of how and why the Jewish population in the Middle East and North Africa declined from one million in 1945 to several thousand today.

(BLOG) Documentary Film Examines Lebanon's Jewish History, Evokes Memories

"Many left in silence, hastily packing their belongings. From one day to the next, the Jews of Lebanon were gone.

'We sat down and cried on the doorstep of the house,' said one elderly Lebanese woman in a new film about Lebanon's now-destroyed Jewish community.

The 45-minute Arabic-language documentary, 'The Jews of Lebanon: Loyalty to Whom?' by BBC journalist Nada Abdelsamad, tracks the lives of Lebanese Jews before, during and after their departure.

It is based on accounts from Lebanese Jews, who fled or migrated to other countries, and memories from their old neighbors and friends and the residents of former Jewish neighborhoods in Beirut and Sidon.

The 1948 establishment of Israel, the subsequent Arab-Israeli conflict and warfare between Israel and Lebanon triggered exoduses of Lebanese Jews to Israel and other countries around the world. It is estimated that only a few hundred or so Lebanese Jews are left in the country, compared with well over 20,000 in 1948.

The film begins with scenes of the Beirut seaside juxtaposed with images of Israel as soft Arabic music is playing the background. The camera then turns to a couple of old buildings, some of them riddled by bullet holes from Lebanon's 15-year-long civil war, in Wadi Abu Jamil, the neighborhood near downtown Beirut that in earlier days used be the city's Jewish quarter.

One older Lebanese woman in the movie takes out a black-and-white photo of her Jewish friend Gamalo that her friend gave her 60 years ago. Gamalo was leaving the country with her family and wanted her friend to keep a memory of their friendship.

'She told me her goodbyes and said 'I'm traveling and we might not see each other again.' ... Don’t tell anyone, but I’m leaving with my family to Israel,''' the woman recounted.

Many years have passed since Lebanon's Jews left, but nostalgia for the old days still appears to be there, according to the film. Former neighbors and acquaintances interviewed still wonder what happened to their Jewish friends, where they went, and about their families.

'Of course I think of them,' one Lebanese woman said in the film. 'I ask myself whether they're still alive, doing well, or if they are dead. I don't know. I think of them so much.'

During tearful goodbyes, some of those who left assured their friends in Beirut that they would come back one day.

The movie is filled with bittersweet ironies. Marco Mizrahi, born to a Jewish father and Christian mother in Beirut, returned to Lebanon in the early 1980s -- as a soldier with the Israeli army during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982.

He said he never felt accepted by Lebanese, but that Israelis were suspicious of him too. His commander quizzed him about his loyalty to the Israeli Defense Forces and the Jewish state, he said.

Would Mizrahi have a problem killing a Lebanese soldier or someone from a Muslim militant group, if it turned out he knew them from his childhood?

If it were a matter of life and death, Mizrahi answered, 'I prefer that it's him who dies and not me.'

The film is based on Abdelsamad's book on Lebanon's Jews, 'Wadi Abu Jamil' , with which she made headlines in Lebanon earlier this year. A couple of weeks ago, the lines ran long at one of Beirut’s theaters for the screening of her film.

Not many remnants are left in the area of those days, except for the Maghen-Abraham synagogue, which is being rebuilt. Posh new residential communities are in the planning while slick new high-rises dot the skyline nearby.

The film has stirred emotions among some, and Abdelsamad said most of feedback she's received has been positive. Though a small number of Lebanese Jews attended the screening, the days of Lebanon's thriving Jewish community are a long gone era.

'All there is left is some photos and stories and some names in official records,' the Lebanese journalist says in the closing scene of the film, as the camera closes in on old pictures and personal belongings." (source)

(VIDEO) Iranium: A Sneak Peek & Trailer Of The New Documentary

A new release from the creators of Obsession and The Third Jihad called Iranium which documents the Islamic ideology behind Iran’s leaders, Iranium will explore the scenarios we may face if this radical regime comes to possess the world’s most powerful weapons. Iranium is set to be launched on September 14, 2010

THE THREAT

The Iranian regime has and continues to threaten the United States, Europe and the world at large. Since the Islamic Revolution in 1979,Iran has actively executed, supported and funded acts of aggression against US and Western interests worldwide. These actions are clearly outlined in the preamble of the Iranian constitution,

“An Ideological Army In the formation and equipping of the country’s defence forces, due attention must be paid to faith and ideology as the basic criteria. Accordingly, the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps are to be organized in conformity with this goal, and they will be responsible not only for guarding and preserving the frontiers of the country, but also for fulfilling the ideological mission of jihad in God’s way; that is, extending the sovereignty of God’s law throughout the world (this is in accordance with the Koranic verse "Prepare against them whatever force you are able to muster, and strings of horses, striking fear into the enemy of God and your enemy, and others besides them" [8:60]).”

Iran has proven through its actions and the actions of its proxies that it intends on upholding the words of their constitution. Irans enrichment of nuclear material to weapons grade level poses a threat to the West even if they are never used.

SYNOPSIS

The Clarion Fund, producer of the films Obsession and The Third Jihad, is producing a new film on the Iranian Nuclear threat. We believe that this is the most important and time-sensitive film we could make at this time.

Since the inception of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Iran has displayed an absolute hatred for the West. Coupled with an extremist ideology, this regime has terrorized the world at large for over 30 years.

Our 45-minute film will explore the principles of the revolution, and visually demonstrate the hatred and violence exhibited by Iran’s brutal leadership. The film will document the regime’s abusive treatment of their once proud citizenry, and will chronicle the regime’s use of terror proxies abroad to inflict deadly messages on their self-described enemies.

It is the goal of the Iranian leadership to spread the radical Islamic revolution with all available resources. This extremist worldview is ingrained in the state’s constitution and apparatuses, and has been supported by the actions of the regime’s leaders.

Since the start of the revolution, the unelected Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has established a stranglehold on the Iranian government, military and economy. Any attempts from within to bring alternative leadership have been violently muted.

Now 30 years after the start of the revolution, Iran is on the cusp of crossing the nuclear threshold. By many estimates, Iran is less than a year away from producing a nuclear weapon—if not sooner. Iran has consistently tried to disguise the intention and progress of its nuclear program, playing a careful game of aggressive gamesmanship and deceptive diplomacy.

The development of a nuclear program has only added to the already immense danger posed by this regime. The numerous threat scenarios posed by a nuclear Iran are beyond frightening.

All the while Western powers—and in particular the United States—have dangerously misread the intentions of the Iranian regime. Furthermore, Western banks, corporations and even governments have continually supported the Iranian Revolution, placing oil and other economic interests above the safety of their constituents.

It is for all these reasons that diplomatic negotiations with Iran have failed since 1979, and would likely continue to fail.

Most importantly, the film will present a wide array of options to combat the threat. The film will target influential U.S. interest groups and policy makers while remaining both straightforward and down-to-earth. After viewing the film, the general public will be able to understand the critical nature of the threats and encourage a movement aimed at preventing the further advancement of the Iranian regime and its nuclear arsenal.

(VIDEO) There Are Things Worse Than War

Watch Daniel Goldhagen's ground-breaking documentary focused on the worldwide phenomenon of genocide, which premiered on PBS on April 14, 2010.

"By the most fundamental measure -- the number of people killed -- the perpetrators of mass murder since the beginning of the twentieth century have taken the lives of more people than have died in military conflict. So genocide is worse than war," reiterates Goldhagen. "This is a little-known fact that should be a central focus of international politics, because once you know it, the world, international politics, and what we need to do all begin to look substantially different from how they are typically conceived."

WORSE THAN WAR documents Goldhagen¹s travels, teachings, and interviews in nine countries around the world, bringing viewers on an unprecedented journey of insight and analysis. In a film that is highly cinematic and evocative throughout, he speaks with victims, perpetrators, witnesses, politicians, diplomats, historians, humanitarian aid workers, and journalists, all with the purpose of explaining and understanding the critical features of genocide and how to finally stop it.

Perhaps the UN should focus its attention, money and energy on real issues in the world, like Genocide and leave Israel alone until it has managed to solved the worse off issues that millions face everyday...
