(NEWS) Poll: 49% Of Palestinians Would Recognize Jewish State

"Survey finds willingness to recognize Israel as Jewish as part of peace deal establishing Palestinian state.

Almost half of all Palestinians living in the West Bank, Gaza, and east Jerusalem would agree to recognize Israel as Jewish as part of a peace agreement establishing a Palestinian state, but 48% object to this, a survey published by Yedioth Ahronoth on Thursday has found.

But in June, before direct peace talks began, results were more positive. At the time, 58% of the Palestinians said they would be willing to accept Israel as a Jewish state under the aforementioned terms, while just 39% objected."

(NEWS) Poll: 41% Of Palestinians Support Resuming The Intifada

"Only 30% support continuing talks, as opposed to 78% of Israelis, according to joint Hebrew U.-Palestinian Center for Policy survey.

If direct talks fail, 41 percent of Palestinians support the resumption of an armed Intifada, according to a poll released on Thursday by the Harry S. Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace at the Hebrew University and the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research in Ramallah.

Sixty-four percent of Palestinians surveyed believe they need success in direct talks more than Israelis, while 51% of Israelis think both sides need success equally. Both groups are skeptical that negotiations will succeed with 5% of Israelis and 6% of Palestinians thinking they will yield an agreement, but 78% of Israelis support their continuation. Only 30% of Palestinians support continuing talks."

(NEWS) Poll Says 10 Percent Of Germans Want A New 'Führer'

"Germans reportedly want leader to 'send foreigners home'; over 58% say 'religious practice for Muslims in Germany should be seriously limited.'

Ten percent of Germans want a 'Führer,' and one quarter are strongly xenophobic, according to a poll released on Wednesday, reported German news source The Local.

The poll, entitled 'The mainstream in the crisis – Right-wing extremist attitudes in Germany,' was conducted by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation for Political Education."

(NEWS) Poll: Most Americans Against Joining Israel In Iran Strike

"A majority of Americans would oppose joining Israel in a war should it strike Iran, a poll showed.

The Chicago Council on Public Affairs poll, released Thursday, shows 56 percent of respondents answer 'No, it shouldn't' to the statement, 'If Israel were to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities, Iran were to retaliate against Israel, and the two were to go to war, the United States should or should not bring its military forces into the war on the side of Israel.'

Those responding, 'Yes, it should' amounted to 38 percent. In other findings, a majority -- 58 percent -- favored 'making a major effort to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict' as a measure to fight terrorism, with 39 percent opposing."

(NEWS) Survey: Israelis Grow More Religiously Observant

"A special Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) survey has found that more Israeli Jews are becoming increasingly religiously observant than the reverse. 21% of those surveyed said they are currently more religious than they were in the past, while 14% say they are less religious.

Five percent of respondents defined themselves as 'chozrim b'teshuva,' a term often used to refer to those raised in non-religious households who choose to become religious as adults. Hareidi-religious respondents were most likely to define themselves as chozrim b'teshuva – a full 22% of them said they were chozrim b'teshuva, compared to 17% of the religious-Zionist community and 9% of the traditional-religious community."

"Survey released on the eve of Rosh Hashanah also finds one in nine Spaniards think that Israel should 'disappear '.

A new poll by the Spanish government released on the eve of Rosh Hashanah in Madrid shows that one in three Spaniards is anti-Semitic, maintaining negative opinions about Jews. Another 46 percent had favorable views of Jews.

One in nine Spaniards, the survey found, supports the statement that 'Israel should disappear because it was established on Arab land.' Another 77 percent disagree with the statement. The results of the study indicate that the major cause of the rise in anti-Semitic feelings is Israel's policy toward the Palestinians in the territories."

"Majority of Arab world accepts peace with Israel on '67 lines.

A new poll finds that 85% of the Arab world would agree to a two-state solution with Israel and a plurality endorse a negotiated solution, though most doubt that such an outcome will happen.

Though 85% of those surveyed in six Arab countries said they were willing to support peace for a two-state solution in which Israel returned to the 1967 lines, including in Jerusalem, though 55% thought Israel would not agree to give up the necessary territory, according to poll conducted by the Saban Center at Brookings’s Shibley Telhami. Only 14% said Arabs should continue to fight even if Israel returned to the 1967 borders."

(NEWS) Gallup Poll Suggests: ‘Move To Israel And Be Happy’

"Israelis are among the happiest people in the world, according to a new Gallup Poll published this week by Forbes magazine. Israel was tied with three other countries for eighth place, placing far ahead of the United States and Britain.

Gallup surveyed thousands of people in 155 countries between the years 2005 and 2009, asking respondents about their overall “life satisfaction” and about daily experiences on particular subjects and feelings. These included how they are respected and if they feel well-rested, free of pain and intellectually active."

"An on-line Arabic Al Arabiya poll (not scientific, but not as self-selecting as PressTV polls) showed that only 10% of their audience followed the 'peace process' closely, and 71% say it no longer interests them at all.

A columnist in Asharq al-Awsat, Saleh Qallab, is very upset. He asks, unbelievingly, 'Palestine is not the top priority for Arabs?!' He calls the results "surprising and frustrating" and calls this development 'dangerous.'"

"Annual Peace Index shows 42.5% think Obama is pro-Palestinian.

The Israeli Democracy Institute and Tel Aviv University released the 2010 Peace Index on Wednesday, revealing Israelis' positions on peace talks, captive soldier Gilad Schalit, US President Barack Obama and other current events and issues.

Nearly three-quarters of the Israeli Jewish public supports holding talks with the Palestinians, but only 32.4% believe they will lead to peace. High support for talks along with pessimism about their outcome has characterized public opinion since the signing of the Oslo accords in 1993. Most Israelis - 62% - support direct dialogue, with only 14% supporting proximity talks mediated by US envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell."

"Support for Israel is close to a record high in America, according to a new Gallup poll. The poll also shows that hopes for the Middle East peace process are low in America and among Palestinian Authority Arabs, but for different reasons.

63% of Americans said they are more sympathetic to Israel than to the PA, while 15% are more sympathetic to the PA. Only 30% said they believe peace between Israel and the PA will eventually arrive, while 67% said it was “doubtful” that there will be peace. They were not asked the reasons for their doubts."

After Obama’s earlier meetings with Netanyahu were portrayed as adversarial, Obama made a point of treating the prime minister with the utmost respect last week, accompanying him to his car and constantly commending him in particular and Israelis in general during his press conference with Netanyahu on Tuesday, and his interview with Channel 2 anchor Yonit Levy two days later."

Arab World for Research and Development, an institute located in Ramallah polled 1,2000 Palestinians - men and women, refugees and non-refugees - in 16 towns at the end of June."

"Support for the "Clinton parameters" has increased among Israelis and Palestinians, a new poll showed.

Palestinians were split evenly at 49 percent on whether to accept the overall parameters; Israelis supported them, 52 percent to 38 percent.

The poll, published Tuesday, was conducted among Israelis by the Harry S. Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and among Palestinians by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research in Ramallah.

The overall parameters were based on those outlined by President Clinton following the 2000 Camp David talks and what unofficial negotiators agreed on in the 2003 Geneva Initiative."

The PA has announced its desire to stop Palestinian Arabs from working in settlements within the next year. According to the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research, only 34% of West Bank Arabs support such a ban and over 60% of all PalArabs (including those in Gaza) oppose it."
