(VIDEO) IDF Soldiers-To-Be: No Terror Swap For Us

Dozens of young soldiers-to-be from the Eitan military preparation program (mechina) have informed the government that if they are taken captive, they do not want to be freed at the price of releasing dangerous terrorists. Wearing T-shirt bearing the logo, “We love Gilad,” the youth have set out for a five-day march from Jerusalem to Gaza to spread their message.

They began their journey at the Har Herzl military cemetery in Jerusalem, where they stopped to remember the fallen soldiers and to say a prayer for Gilad Shalit's freedom.





They plan to proceed to the Erez checkpoint outside Gaza, where they will call not to bargain for captive soldiers in a manner that undermines security.

One young man explained, “We are not yet in the army. We've never been in captivity. But specifically now, when we aren't yet in uniform, we are ready to make the commitment that if G-d forbid we are taken captive, we do not want them to free us in a way that would hurt national security.”

Student Liel Homiansky said he had received support from his father, a former prisoner of Zion, and another man who had been jailed by the Soviet Union. Both told him that while they were in prison, “With their whole hearts, they would never have agreed to be released if in exchange any Zionist principle would be endangered. Not even a security risk, but something like delaying aliya [immigration].”

Their support gave him the confidence to agree wholeheartedly that he does not want terrorists freed on his behalf, Homiansky said. He, along with dozens of others, signed a petition to that effect.

Students said they support the Shalit family, and want to see Gilad Shalit brought home as quickly as possible. “This is the most unifying point in this generation,” one said. “All of us want Gilad to return home safely – in an honorable way.”

Hamas has demanded the release of more than 1,000 terrorists in exchange for Shalit's freedom, and some senior military officials say meeting the demand would lead to more murders.

Efforts have been made around the world on behalf of Shalit: pro-Israel activists created a "Free Gilad flotilla" in New York, governments have called to worsen conditions for terrorists, Psalms have been recited worldwide and senior leaders including U.S. President Barack Obama have called for the young soldier's freedom. However, Shalit's captors continue to hold him incommunicado. He is assumed to be alive and in Gaza." (source)

Eyal Plotkin: "The Human Scale" - My 2 Cents

I have been talking to quite a few people about the notions raised in the presentation which includes coworkers, friends and even someone dear to me who had lost someone dear to them in an “abhorrent act”; that by itself already makes the purpose of 'The Human Scale' known and its affects evident.

When you hide behind the facade of the stage, you have the luxury of relinquishing any factual basis to your words so throwing numbers around is automatically believed without question (by some), which serves the angle in your case: I think you try to paint a picture of balance, of a common problem the Palestinians and Israelis share in this conflict of hatred but what comes across in the end, to me, is an imbalance of forces which puts Israel once more in the seat of 'the evil one'.



I thought the presentation about the conflict suffers from the same media oscillation on a world scale, it is a Macro Vs Micro really: the suffering on both sides is great – it just always looks like we are causing more damage intently.

We (Israelis) need to deal with an unknown enemy which uses its civilian buildings as military encampments while they (Palestinians) need to take back what was lost during a war which was started by their brethren who, now, want nothing to do with them.

In a densely populated area, which is so small; while keeping in mind the need to blend in, I don’t blame them (I would expect these are some of the cores to guerrilla tactics) – but it’s residue after effect reverberates in the world media and we become Goliath instead of David.

It is no news that their civilians, (I say civilians but really they are subjects) are being subjected to all sorts of brain washing with the sole purpose in mind to create new warriors in the name of Islam and word of Jihad – a proof of that you’ve shown when you presented children’s shows that perpetuate that same cause.

It is also not a big secret that we are stronger, we have a bigger army – better weapon technology, which (I’m assuming) its research is being fueled by Americans for reasons of your choosing, as better ways to kill a man are always a welcome commodity in warfare. Point being, we are using the smallest weapons you can use but when it comes to kill or be killed what would you tell a soldier who’s being shot at by a sniper from the third floor of a school when children are hiding on the second floor? What would you do?

The R&D capabilities of our country and its relations to the Americans would also explain the American aversion at stepping in, with the virtuous purpose and intent at changing the status quo.

What would you have us do, equip all our soldiers with Paintball guns? – We all know how that turned out on the 'Mavi Marmara' - Next water balloon grenades, and origami knifes.

On the other hand, I do believe that we need to be the better entity here; we need to do something extreme that would prove our intent at peace especially as the anvil of democracy hammers at the Muslim community – this is our time to shine but we are missing it and we are doing nothing about it.

As to the way you chose to receive feedback: the afterhours debate is scheduled at a very poor hour, when you actually want feedback, when you actually want to listen to people – you give them more than 30 minutes of time and you don’t bicker on how they should ask the questions, you give them space and you listen.

I thought the debate was the most important part of the presentation, but it felt it wasn’t your main agenda in how it was given attention.

The presentation was conducted in a Democratic society with people in a higher demographical and socioeconomically state, which albeit ensued response doesn’t really hit the ears of the people that are feeding the reciprocal rage that is going on – they are comfortable with their lives, wouldn’t count on them to do anything than speak about it over cocktails and shrimp.

Ask yourselves this:

• How many people in the audience had lost someone dear to them in an “abhorrent act”, a terrorist bombing if you will?
• How many of them were Palestinians?
• How many of them were soldiers (Active or reserve)?
• How would the Palestinians - a non-democratic society that brain washes their "subjects" receive you when you want to show them your piece?

Debating the purpose of this presentation as being good or bad is irrelevant – it is important at inciting talk and the exchange of ideas, which in itself is something that in my view would be almost illegal to contain and is obligatory to spread.

I would be really intrigued to see how the presentation pans out in a room parted by Palestinians and Israelis, the debate after the show on that would be fascinating.

When the ripples caused by the boulder of freedom that hit the Muslim world find their way to the shores of Gaza, I hope they will amount to no more than the foam of democracy rather than a tsunami of bigotry." (source) -Eyal Plotkin

Yunis al Astal, a member of the Palestinian Authority parliament, spelled out his organization's vision for the genocidal annihilation of the Jewish people in a television interview last week. The interview was broadcast on Hamas Al Aqsa TV and monitored by incitement watchdog group MEMRI.

Supporters of Israel held a rally opposite an anti-Israel “Nakba Day” protest Sunday in London.

A few hours later, close to 2,000 people attended a high-profile event in support of the Jewish state, “We Believe in Israel.”





The event featured sessions with top-level political speakers from both Britain and Israel, and a series of workshops where delegates learned from experts about campaigning and communicating.

Delegates also learned the latest facts and arguments about the situation in Israel and the wider Middle East. A major focus was placed on helping delegates to understand the views of the British public and political figures on Israel, and how best to communicate with each specific audience.

Rafi Nassi, Head of the Jewish Agency delegation in London, told Arutz Sheva correspondent Hezki Ezra that the event was the largest of its kind in recent memory. It was, he said, “a huge show of force by supporters of Israel and the British Jewish community.”

(VIDEO) Iranian Website Displays Antisemitic Cartoons About The Holocaust

A video which was posted to YouTube on Thursday by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) depicts some disturbing anti-Semitic cartoons about the Holocaust which have been displayed on an Iranian website.



One of the cartoons shows a gas chamber into which Jews are depicted entering one by one. Above the chamber is a counter which counts the number of Jews who have entered the chamber, until it reaches six million – the number of Jews killed by the Nazis during the Holocaust. After the counter reaches the six million mark, the Jews who remain alive are seen cheering.



The clip then goes on to show a Jewish person as he approaches what appears to be an automated banking machine. He is shown to withdraw six million dollars from the machine, at which point it is revealed that the machine is in fact a “Holocaust Memorial.” The purpose of this cartoon is to criticize the world for its acceptance to pay restitution to the Jewish people over the Holocaust.

A third cartoon depicts Nazi leader Adolf Hitler as he ponders which mustache to wear, finally deciding on one that looks like a Star of David.

Also shown is one cartoon which depicts Europe as a cow, and the Holocaust as a means of milking money from the Europeans.

The cartoons are in line with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s hateful view of Israel, the Jewish people, and the Holocaust. Ahmadinejad, who constantly calls to wipe Israel off the map, has many times publicly denied that the Holocaust occurred.

In one such speech, Ahmadinejad said the Holocaust was “exaggerated” as a pretext to “expand the domination of the victors, particularly the US and Britain, in the international arena.” He also said that “the illegitimate Zionist regime is an outcome of the Holocaust,” stating that while many millions of people died during World War II, the Jews used the Holocaust as a way of massacring indigenous Arabs, evicting them, and establishing a Jewish state in Palestine.

On another occasion, Ahmadinejad, who slammed Israel for defending itself against terror attacks originating in Gaza, said that “the real Holocaust was in Palestine.” (source)

(VIDEO) C.A.M.E.R.A. Video Unveils BBC's Ethics: Lies About Jerusalem, Lies About Guidelines

The BBC revealed its complete disregard of its own Editorial Guidelines when it defended an egregiously one-sided and inaccurate documentary about Jerusalem. This video investigates the flouting of these guidelines by Panorama and the disingenuous ruling of the BBC Trust's Editorial Standards Committee in support of the January 2010 segment.





"In a new video expose posted online late last week, the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA) provides an extensive refutation of the reporting in a controversial 2010 BBC program on Jerusalem, as well as the BBC’s reporting ethics.

The BBC program at issue, entitled “A Walk in the Park,” was filmed at the end of 2009 and aired in January of 2010 on BBC channel Panorama. The program drew criticism from viewers, who brought it to CAMERA’s attention, for what seemed to be a dramatic lack of even-handedness. The program put forward that Israelis are engaged in “ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians, that there is no Jewish connection to the Temple Mount, and that violence in Jerusalem is exclusively at the hands of Israelis, among other allegations.

CAMERA filed a complaint with the BBC over the lack of impartiality in the program, which went through numerous appeals over the course of 2010 until reaching the BBC’s Editorial Standards Committee. The committee ruled that there had been no violation of the BBC’s Editorial Standards in “A Walk in the Park.”

A previous, similar appeal on a segment by Middle East editor Jeremy Bowen several years ago, researchers at CAMERA recounted, was addressed with good faith, as experts from both sides of the political spectrum were brought in as consultants and ruled that the Bowen report was not impartial and was inaccurate in certain respects.

With the ruling on the Bowen case, which led to public BBC rebuke, CAMERA senior research analyst Gilead Ini told The Jerusalem Post, the BBC “did get some push-back from the anti-Israel elite in the UK, including Robert Fisk, a prominent anti-Israel journalist who didn’t like that the BBC admitted to problems in [the Bowen] report.”

The BBC appeal on "A Walk In The Park" was decided in December 2010, with its ruling being made public in January 2011. According to BBC documents, the appeals committee found that there were no violations whatsoever of the BBC's guidelines on accuracy or impartiality.

These findings applied to all of CAMERA's complaints as to the subjects of home demolitions, charges of ethnic cleansing, discrepancies in awards of building permits, takeovers of homes in East Jerusalem, concerns over Israeli archaeology and Israeli/Arab violence in Jerusalem.

For example, in the Panorama segment, a man's allegation that Israel is engaged in ethnic cleansing is met without comment or questioning from the program's host, which CAMERA deemed poor journalism. To this claim, the BBC appeal committee responded in its papers, "The context in which “ethnic cleansing” is referred to is key: This was clearly not an official statement made by a Palestinian politician, but clearly an emotional cry by one man in the midst of a house being demolished ... at no stage did (the reporter) give any sense that Mr Siyam was correct to hold this view." CAMERA also ventured the complaint that the program did not depict any instances of Arab-on-Israeli violence, rather focusing on settler violence against Palestinians. "The manner in which the programme presented an Arab victim of an Israeli shooting was consistent with the pattern of unquestioningly accepting Palestinian claims while minimising or ignoring Israeli concerns," the CAMERA appeal is cited and summarized in the BBC response. "While the evidence is in dispute, in that the Israeli shooter claims he was acting in self defence, the entire segment dwelt on emotive interviews with the Arab victim and his son. Their accounts were accepted as fact and no one from the Israeli side was interviewed. The incident was presented as an example of “the suffering” that “both sides” endure but no equivalent example of Israeli suffering was provided. The complainants cited three possible examples, including the 2008 massacre of eight teenagers at a religious seminary." "While the programme focused on only one incident, it was clearly stated that there is growing tension in the area," the BBC appeals committee succinctly replied.

In summarizing its findings, the BBC committee wrote, "Looking at the program overall, the Committee noted that the film had been a report of events at a particular moment in time in the context of a complex and controversial dispute. It noted it would almost always be possible for those with strong feelings and a particular perspective on the dispute to take issue with the detail of any report on this subject. However, the Committee further noted that it was bound to consider the program as the generality of Panorama viewers might have done; it was from this viewpoint that it considered the film, overall, had been duly accurate and impartial." In all likelihood, Ini conjectured, the BBC “wanted to avoid controversy, or thought they would avoid controversy, by refusing to take this [“A Walk In The Park”] complaint seriously.” BBC Editorial Guidelines, available at http://www.bbc.co.uk/guidelines/editorialguidelines/, are meant to apply to all works produced by the BBC.

“We felt that this [program] was such an obvious example of a violation of the editorial standards and impartiality they claim to uphold, as well as values of accuracy,” CAMERA senior research analyst Ricki Hollander told the Post. “We felt that the public should know about the fact that they completely abandoned their own editorial guidelines.”

In response to the BBC’s findings on “A Walk In The Park,” CAMERA researchers created a 15 minute video expose entitled, “BBC Ethics Unveiled: Lies About Jerusalem, Lies About Guidelines,” currently available on YouTube. The CAMERA video goes through both factual inaccuracies in the program and the BBC’s responses to CAMERA’s inquiries.

“The public needs to understand what is happening here,” Ini said. “The BBC claims to have solid and noble editorial guidelines. If they’re making this claim, but not enforcing them, then they’re just a fig leaf.”

The “BBC Ethics Unveiled” video takes viewers step by step on how the Panorama program views “everything through the lens of Palestinian grievances,” “hectoring Israelis while accepting Arab allegations uncritically and even underscoring them” in the voice of the presenter, Jane Corbin.

Excerpts from the program are shown in the CAMERA video, which also elaborates as to omissions in the video’s recounting of the struggle over Jerusalem. The CAMERA video points out that there is no mention made of either deadly attacks on Jews in Jerusalem, or of any acts of Palestinian incitement. The video highlights particular elements of Corbin’s reporting, noting that, for example, Corbin only examined demolition of homes in the days she was there, as opposed to looking at the larger picture.

“The BBC Trust still has to defend itself, generally, to its constituents,” Hollander said. “We’re hoping that if there is enough reaction to the abandonment of the BBC editorial guidelines in this situation, the BBC trust will take this seriously. If people let them know that this is not acceptable, they will react in the context of future programs.”

“Looking forward, we hope the BBC will understand that violations of their guidelines won’t go unanswered,” Ini said." (source)

But just like John Quiñones, the Israeli reporter on this version of the show lauds those who made the right decision, which in this case was to stand up for the Arab customers and rebuff the bigoted salesman.

Most Israelis deal with a situation like this exactly as I would expect us to...with common decency and concern for anyone involved...Am Yisrael Chai!!
