(AUDIO) Stanley Goldfoot: A Letter To The World About Jerusalem

During the early days of Israel's formation as an independent nation, there were those who saw the Jewish quest of two thousand years as a diplomatic struggle, and there were those for whom it meant war.

It may be that history has yet to judge the more critical of the two, for each position developed followers that continue to struggle with each other, as they did from the earliest years of the Zionist mission.

Those elements within the nascent Jewish State that relied on the violent removal of foreign powers from Mandate Palestine included the Fighters for Freedom of Israel (LEHI). The organization was founded by Avraham Stern and sought the liberation of Eretz Israel and the establishment of an autonomous Jewish polity.

This is the story of one intelligence officer of the LEHI. His name is Stanley Goldfoot. South African by birth, Mr. Goldfoot resided in Jerusalem however passed away in 2006 at 92 years old. He remained ever vigilant of Israel's future.

Here is a shortened video/audio clip of his letter, below the video is the full letter...

"I am not a creature from another planet, as you seem to believe. I am >> a Jerusalemite-like yourselves, a man of flesh and blood. I am a citizen of my city, an integral part of my people. I have a few things to get off my chest. Because I am not a diplomat, I do not have to mince words. I do not have to please you or even persuade you.

I owe you nothing. You did not build this city, you did not live in it, you did not defend it when they came to destroy it. And we will be damned if we will let you take it away. There was a Jerusalem before there was a New York . When Berlin , Moscow , London , and Paris were miasmal forest and swamp, there was a thriving Jewish community here. It gave something to the world which you nations have rejected ever since you established yourselves- a humane moral code.

Here the prophets walked, their words flashing like forked lightning. Here a people who wanted nothing more than to be left alone, fought off waves of heathen would-be conquerors, bled and died on the battlements, hurled themselves into the flames of their burning Temple rather than surrender, and when finally overwhelmed by sheer numbers and led away into captivity, swore that before they forgot Jerusalem, they would see their tongues cleave to their palates, their right arms whither.

For two pain-filled millennia, while we were your unwelcome guests, we prayed daily to return to this city. Three times a day we petitioned the Almighty: “Gather us from the four corners of the world, bring us upright to our land, return in mercy to Jerusalem, Thy city, and swell in it as Thou promised.” On every Yom Kippur and Passover, we fervently voiced the hope that next year would find us in Jerusalem.

Your inquisitions, pogroms, expulsions, the ghettos into which you jammed us, your forced baptisms, your quota systems, your genteel anti-Semitism, and the final unspeakable horror, the holocaust (and worse, your terrifying disinterest in it)- all these have not broken us. They may have sapped what little moral strength you still possessed, but they forged us into steel. Do you think that you can break us now after all we have been through? Do you really believe that after Dachau and Auschwitz we are frightened by your threats of blockades and sanctions? We have been to Hell and back- a Hell of your making. What more could you possibly have in your arsenal that could scare us?

I have watched this city bombarded twice by nations calling themselves civilized. In 1948, while you looked on apathetically, I saw women and children blown to smithereens, after we agreed to your request to internationalize the city. It was a deadly combination that did the job- British officers, Arab gunners, and American-made cannon. And then the savage sacking of the Old City-the willful slaughter, the wanton destruction of every synagogue and religious school, the desecration of Jewish cemeteries, the sale by a ghoulish government of tombstones for building materials, for poultry runs, army camps, even latrines.

And you never said a word.

You never breathed the slightest protest when the Jordanians shut off the holiest of our places, the Western Wall, in violation of the pledges they had made after the war- a war they waged, incidentally, against the decision of the UN. Not a murmur came from you whenever the legionnaires in their spiked helmets casually opened fire upon our citizens from behind the walls.

Your hearts bled when Berlin came under siege. You rushed your airlift 'to save the gallant Berliners'. But you did not send one ounce of food when Jews starved in besieged Jerusalem . You thundered against the wall which the East Germans ran through the middle of the German capital- but not one peep out of you about that other wall, the one that tore through the heart of Jerusalem . And when that same thing happened 20 years later, and the Arabs unleashed a savage, unprovoked bombardment of the Holy City again, did any of you do anything?

The only time you came to life was when the city was at last reunited. Then you wrung your hands and spoke loftily of 'justice' and need for the 'Christian' quality of turning the other cheek.

The truth- and you know it deep inside your gut – you would prefer the city to be destroyed rather than have it governed by Jews. No matter how diplomatically you phrase it, the age old prejudices seep out of every word.

If our return to the city has tied your theology in knots, perhaps you had better reexamine your catechisms. After what we have been through, we are not passively going to accommodate ourselves to the twisted idea that we are to suffer eternal homelessness until we accept your savior.

For the first time since the year 70, there is now complete religious freedom for all in Jerusalem. For the first time since the Romans put a torch to the Temple, everyone has equal rights (You prefer to have some more equal than others.) We loathe the sword- but it was you who forced us to take it up. We crave peace, but we are not going back to the peace of 1948 as you would like us to.

We are home. It has a lovely sound for a nation you have willed to wander over the face of the globe. We are not leaving. We are redeeming the pledge made by our forefathers: Jerusalem is being rebuilt. 'Next year' and the year after, and after, and after, until the end of time- 'in Jerusalem '!"

(BLOG) Antisemitism: The Dying Age Sinks To New Low In Bizarre Front-Page Attack On Jewish Businessman

"The Melbourne Age newspaper has stunned and appalled the Jewish community today by confecting a scandal about the fact that the Prime Minister’s partner works for a Jewish businessman Albert Dadon.

It inaccurately describes Albert as an 'Israel lobbyist' which suggests he is paid to promote Israel. That’s simply not correct and conveys a false impression.

Dadon is an investor, in property and many other things and was the Chair of Melbourne’s international Jazz Festival and created the Australia Israel Leadership Forum..."

(NEWS) BusinessWeek: Tel Aviv More Expensive Than New York

"A survey by ECA International ranked 399 cities around the world.

Two years of rising property prices in Israel and falling property prices in the US, combined with a more severe recession in the US than in Israel, which contributed to the shekel's appreciation against the dollar, has resulted Tel Avivand Jerusalem surpassing New York in the rankings of the world's most expensive cities, according to a survey by global human resources company ECA International, which was published by 'BusinessWeek'.

ECA ranks Tel Aviv in 19th place in 2010 (up from 24th place in 2009) and Jerusalem in 22nd place (up from 27th place), whereas New York is in 29th place (down from 18th place). Tokyo is in first place, up from second place in 2009, followed by Oslo, which rose to second place from eighth."

(NEWS) Tourism Booms Between Israel And Malta

"While Israeli tourism to Turkey is dying on the vine, the Republic of Malta is preparing to introduce a new direct flight route to the Jewish State. The small Mediterranean nation, located near Italy, has lost no time taking advantage of the drop in Israeli travelers who are choosing Turkey as their destination of choice.

The General Retailers and Traders Union (GRTU), the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Chamber, and the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) banded together recently to advocate routes to both Jerusalem and Beirut. Some of those involved suggested that it would be a good idea to connect the two destinations."

(NEWS) Israel: From Elusive Utopia To Inspired Reality

"During the recent World Zionist Congress in Jerusalem, Professor Micah Goodman of the Hebrew University presented an illuminating assessment of post-Zionism and anti-Zionism. Goodman observed that the second generation of classic Zionist thinkers -- from the socialist Zionist Yosef Haim Brenner to the cultural Zionist Ahad Ha’Am to the religious Zionist Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook -- envisioned a future Jewish state in Utopian terms.

Utopian thinking offers a fantasy, a hope that all of life’s problems will disappear. Utopianism secularizes messianic expectations for the end of human history and imagines a world devoid of any imperfections.

Yet as noted at the congress by Israeli historian Yaakov Talmon, the danger of Utopian political thinking is that if only the perfect is worthwhile, then anything that is imperfect -- such as the modern-day State of Israel -- is worthless.

Measured against the dream of a Jewish state in which there are no criminals, no corrupt politicians, no unethical soldiers and no political compromises, the real Israel will always fail.

By contrast, other nations are not held to high standards at all."

(NEWS) Stuart Levey: The Man Trying To Make Anti-Iran Sanctions Work

"Stuart Levey was given a big stick when the Bush administration made him the first under secretary of the Treasury for terrorism and financial intelligence. But the stick only started to hurt its targets -- terrorist groups and rogue nations -- when he figured out how to soft-talk nations and private businesses into going along.

Levey is that rarity -- a senior government official who has transitioned not just between two administrations, but between two presidents with profound foreign policy differences.

President Obama's decision to keep Levey and his office in place has less to do with ideology and more with how Levey has made the office into a tool that has effectively squeezed Iran and North Korea and hindered the ambitions of terrorist groups."

(NEWS) Gay Pride Parade Used Ruse To Include Anti-Israel Group, Critics Charge

"Canadian Jewish organizations are saying they will not back down after an unexpected policy reversal that will allow an anti-Israel group to participate in this year's Toronto gay pride parade.

Organizers of the annual parade, one of the largest events on Canada's cultural calendar, backtracked this month from an earlier decision that had banned a group called Queers Against Israeli Apartheid from marching in the parade under that name. Critics said the reversal was part of a ruse designed to secure some $120,000 in city funding.

Parade officials, responding to pressure from Jewish groups and several municipal politicians, including candidates for mayor, said in May that they were 'disallowing' the controversial group from using the phrase 'Israeli apartheid' in the July 4 parade. Officials said the anti-Israel group could march under another banner, such as 'Queers in Favor of a Free Palestine.'"

(NEWS) Jewish Agency Makes It Official: New Focus Is On Identity Building

"As expected, the board of governors of the Jewish Agency for Israel approved a plan to overhaul the agency’s focus.

The new strategic vision, which is outlined in an 11-page document, calls for turning the agency’s attention more squarely toward building global Jewish identity, and away from its traditional mission of bringing in and settling new immigrants to Israel.

The plan, according to a statement released by the agency last week, passed 119-1 in a June 25 vote at the board's meetings in Jerusalem.

'The main danger facing the Jewish world today is a weakening of the connection of young Jews to their people and to the State of Israel,' said the agency’s chairman, Natan Sharansky, who led the new strategic planning process along with the organization’s top lay leader, Richard Pearlstone. 'Our new plan deals directly with this issue.'"

(NEWS) Turkey: We'll Force Israel To Take Responsibility For Its Crimes

"If Israelis in high official places were still slow to get the message of Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's implacable anti-Israel campaign, they only had to listen to foreign ministry spokesman Burak Ozgergin's vow in Ankara Wednesday, June 30: The (Turkish) public,' he said, 'will see in step after step (taken by Turkey) how Ankara gets Israel to admit its crimes.'

He noted that Turkey had not once, but twice denied Israeli military planes entry to Turkish airspace.

DEBKAfile's sources report that this verbal assault was consistent with the 'revelation' unveiled Monday, June 28, by the Turkish MAZLUM-DER organization, also known as The Association of Human Rights and Solidarity for Oppressed Peoples, just before Erdogan flew home from Toronto where he attended the G20 summit and had a disastrous interview with US president Barack Obama."

The vehicles arrived in Jordan and we hope they will arrive in the next few days.' It was not clear if he expected Israel to block them again or allow them through.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, in his famous Bar Ilan University speech last year expressing support for a Palestinian state, made it very clear that Israel would only agree to a demilitarized PA state."

(NEWS) Only Israel Making The Effort Toward Peace

"Like the people and governments of Israel, the pro-Israel community in the United States has long sought a resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through direct negotiations between the parties that would lead to a lasting peace agreement and Israel’s acceptance by all its neighbors.

The Israeli people dream of peace, and their governments have worked and sacrificed for it. As American supporters of Israel, we are committed to helping them make it a reality.

Since assuming office, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pursued peace with Israel’s neighbors. Netanyahu declared his vision for peace -- for two states -- last June in a landmark speech at Bar-Ilan University, saying he supported the establishment of a demilitarized Palestinian state alongside the Jewish state of Israel."

(BLOG) Arab Journalists Come Out In Support Of Israeli Flotilla Actions

"Journalists in the Arab world have come out in support of Israel in the aftermath of last month's flotilla incident, which left 9 dead after Hamas-tied "humanitarian activists" attacked Israeli commandos with clubs, knives, and other weapons.

The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) released excerpts from an interview with Magdi Khalil, an Egyptian-American writer, aired on June 15 on Al-Jazeera TV. Khalil explains:

'The Turkish ship, however, was organized by a known terrorist organization, which has appeared on the terror list since 1997. The IHH [The Foundation for Human Rights and Freedoms and Humanitarian Relief] is a terrorist organization. It was foolish of the Israeli defense minister to believe the Turkish prime minister, who said that these were peaceful people. The Turkish prime minister is an Islamist and should not be trusted to begin with.'"

(SCI) Israeli-Palestinian Scientists To Study Sea Corals

"In a new research project that was officially launched this month, Israeli, Italian and Palestinian scientists will work together to try to predict what the condition of Red and Mediterranean Sea corals will be in 100 years time and what effects rising seawater temperatures and increased acidity may have on their health.

he European Research Council (ERC), an agency supporting cutting-edge research in the EU, has awarded a grant of more than three million Euros to conduct a study on corals and global warming to Prof. Zvy Dubinsky, a leading researcher of aquatic photosynthesis at Israel's Bar-Ilan University, and coral biologist Stefano Goffredo and Guiseppe Falini, an expert in bio-mineralization, of Italy's University of Bologna.

A team of additional Italian and Israeli scientists as well as Palestinian scientists and students from Al-Quds University in East Jerusalem, will also collaborate on the project, to be carried out over a period of five years.

The main goal of the project entitled 'Corals and Global Warming: The Mediterranean versus the Red Sea (CoralWarm)' is to create a mathematical model which will enable scientists to foresee how Mediterranean and tropical coral reefs will change over the next 50 to100 years.

Corals are major bio-constructors. They build tri-dimensional habitats which then host the rest of the food chain actors. A coral reef reduction or deterioration will have major impact on both the environment and the economy through its effects on fishery, tourism and the protection of coastlines that is now guaranteed by tropical coral reefs." (AGRI) The Potato Guy: A New Development In Farming

"After nearly 30 years of research, Professor David Levy has developed a strain of potato that can be grown in hot, dry climates, and irrigated by saline water sources.

Professor David Levy's windowsill is lined with potatoes of numerous shapes and sizes. It's an appropriate decoration for a man who has spent his lifetime breeding the staple food.

Now Levy, an Israeli scientist from the Hebrew University Institute for Plant Sciences, at the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, has developed not only a new strain of potatoes suitable for growth in hot, dry climates, but also new strains that can be grown using irrigation from saline water sources.

His development will have a huge impact on potato production in hot, desert regions like the Middle East, where temperatures are scorching, and water resources scarce.

Levy believes that farmers in these desert regions will now be able to grow their own potatoes, and market them to Europe and the US, helping their economies thrive.

Levy also hopes that his research will "enhance understanding and maybe even peace" between Israel and its neighbors, as scientists and officials from Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and Morocco meet with Israeli scientists at USAID-sponsored regional meetings held in Morocco, Israel, Egypt and Cyprus to share knowledge and build bridges of information and technology." (EDU) Smart Cartoons For Kids

"An Israeli animation company for pre-schoolers is attracting networks in the US, Canada, Europe and even Qatar with content that is aimed to expand creativity, knowledge and fun.

Smartoonz animation Monkey See, Monkey Do is already being viewed on TV channels all over the world, and new deals are in the offing.

Cartoons for kids have been around for almost a century and have evolved from a medium that focused on pure entertainment to a vehicle that aims to expand creativity, knowledge, reasoning, social development and motor skills in an atmosphere of fun and wonder. Those are the stated goals of Israel's Smartoonz, a division of Zeppelin Animation

Smartoonz appears poised to become a leader in providing quality entertainment and educational programs for the pre-school set. Shows from Smartoonz are already being broadcast to kids in Europe, North and South America and Canada and also feature on Qatar's Al-Jazeera children's network. Eighteen months ago one of the shows, Monkey See, Monkey Do was sold to Disney Latin America, and at this year's MIPCOM entertainment content industry show in Cannes the company made deals with broadcasters in South Korea, China, France and South America.

CEO Yuval Levy tells ISRAEL21c that Smartoonz is all about the kids. 'I got the idea for Smartoonz a few years ago, when I was asked by the new Baby cable TV network here in Israel for help in creating content,' he says.

Levy was already well known in the Israeli animation business, thanks to Zeppelin Animations, where he produced programs and ads for local television programs and movies. 'Just a short time before, we had our first child, so we saw first-hand that there was a lack of content for very young children. We sought ideas by looking at programs that were being broadcast elsewhere, but we didn't find the kind of valuable educational content and interactivity we hoped for,' he recounts.

Much more than passive viewing

Levy took the initiative and collaborated with educational experts, psychologists - and his wife Tamar, an early education expert - to develop content for the network that would be both entertaining and educational. 'We worked with specialists on every step, from conceptualization to post-production. We applied their expertise to every detail, from the character design to the dialogue and storylines,' Levy says. And the network was pleased.

Realizing that Smartoonz shows might have international appeal, in 2006 Levy teamed up with entertainment industry veteran Henri Zimand, and produced six programs. It was with Zimand that he set up a booth at the MIPCOM industry show.

The 'Monkey' series, which mixes live action and 3D animation, has been Smartoonz biggest success to date. The show features an animated monkey leading children on the program in a series of dances, exercises and activities, accompanied by original kid-friendly music. 'It's not just passive viewing, it's an activity,' says Levy.

'Energetic pre-schoolers are able to practice their motor skills, learn new words and definitions, and identify with the live-action kids they're watching on-screen.' Besides Monkey, Smartoonz offers five other programs, and is currently developing other projects, including a show to promote good nutrition among pre-schoolers. 'Given the interest in children's health today, we expect that one to be a big hit,' Levy declares.

Ready for the Internet TV revolution

Having great content is important, but so is standing out from the crowd and creating buzz among viewers, says Levy - and in order to create that buzz, about three years ago Smartoonz set up its own YouTube page, where it posts selected programs in each of its series.

So far, more than 11 million people have watched Smartoonz programs online - with more than seven million checking out Monkey See, Monkey Do. Noting the numbers, Levy says that the company is working on content specifically for websites and upcoming Internet TV services. 'The Internet TV revolution is coming, and we plan to be ready for it,' he says.

Smartoonz has several distribution deals, the largest one with HiT Entertainment (formerly owned by Jim Henson Productions). Networks showing Smartoonz programs, especially Monkey, include the aforementioned Disney LATAM; France 5, Minimax (Eastern Europe); TVA, TVO and Knowledge (Canada); PBS Kids (70,000 kids watch the two Smartoonz-produced programs daily); and Al Jazeera, which Levy says seems to have no problem showing quality Israeli-produced content.

'We got calls from many of the top companies - Warner Brothers, Disney, and others - who told us that they were extremely impressed with our content,' he relates.

Despite the deals, Levy says the company is still very much in startup mode and is actively seeking investors, especially for an Internet platform he wants to build to distribute Smartoonz content. So far, he says, the company has five full-time employees, and all production emanates from its Tel Aviv office. Mostly self-funded by its partners, Smartoonz has received some investment money from angels.

Still, Levy believes that the company is close to becoming self-supporting: 'As our programs become more widely distributed, we will be able to go into merchandising, and at that point, perhaps in another year or so, we expect to be able survive on our sales.' Judging from the reception worldwide so far, chances are Smartoonz programs will be coming soon to a kids' channel near you." (source)

(BLOG) Why The Media Laps Up The Anti-Israel Media Campaign

"Israel is subject daily to scores of false claims and slanders that receive a remarkable amount of credibility in Western media, academic, and intellectual circles even when no proof is offered.

Palestinian groups (including the Gaza and Palestinian Authority regimes), associated local and allied foreign non-government organizations, Western radical and anti-Israel groups, and politically committed journalists are eager to act as propaganda agents making up false stories or transmitting them without serious thought or checking.

Others have simply defined the Palestinians as the 'victims' and 'underdogs' while Israel is the 'villain' and 'oppressor.' Yet truth remains truth; academic and journalist standards are supposed to apply."

(NEWS) Abbas Talks Nicely To US Jews While PA TV Calls Them Animals

"Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas spoke to American Jews about peace without incitement against Jews while back home, exactly eight days later, official PA TV called Jews 'our enemies.' A week after that, it continued to teach children that all of Israel is 'Palestine.'

Abbas's change in tactics in campaigning for a new Arab state focuses on Jews in the United States for the first time. Abbas, who wrote his doctoral thesis on the denial of the Holocaust, told Jewish leaders at the June 9 dinner that he sent delegates to Holocaust memorial ceremonies in Russia and Poland.

'I want to tell everyone that these people suffered, and we are suffering. Now we want peace between each other,' Abbas was quoted as saying. He also rejected Holocaust denial, according to Ben Smith of Politico.com. Abbas condemned violence and even recognized the Jewish connection to Israel although he apparently did not specifically refer to the Temple Mount. The PA and the Arab world in general have claimed for the past several years that the Jewish Holy Temples never existed."

(ENVIRO) Arab Nations May Be Waking Up Too Late To Climate Change

"While Israel is already racing to put water-saving measures in place to meet the challenge of a world with less water, such as desalination plants and specialized targeted drip irrigation agricultural systems, Arab neighbors are only now becoming aware of just how severe the blow will be when the crisis fully hits the region.

A report by the Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED) issued this week in Amman warns that Arab countries in the region are growing increasingly vulnerable to the potential impact of climate change.

The issues of rising average temperatures, combined with recurrent drought and water shortages are likely to be exacerbated by 2025, according to the report, thereby affecting the area's agricultural production and resulting food supply."

According to the state-run Anatolian news agency, the killings coincided with an increase in rebel activity by Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) guerrillas against Turkish military targets.

The villagers were collecting thyme when security forces opened fire at Hassa in Hatay province, the agency said without specifying when the killings took place. A third villager was reportedly wounded in the incident."

(NEWS) Congresswoman Fears Hezbollah ‘Israel-Like Bombings’ In US

"A Republican Congresswoman has warned that Hizbullah terrorists, hooked up with Mexican drug cartels, may be planning ”Israel-like bombings” against customs officials or National Guard units on the U.S. border.

North Carolina legislator Sue Myrick wrote Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, urging a task force 'to engage U.S. and Mexican law enforcement and border patrol officials about Hizbullah's presence, activities, and connections to gangs and drug cartels.'

Echoing previous reports of Hizbullah’s activity in the profitable drug trade, Myrick wrote, 'The connection between Hizbullah and the drug cartels has seemed to grow over the past few years. This may be especially true on the U.S. southern border.'"

(NEWS) Palin Knocks Obama For ‘Selling Out’ Israel And Other Allies

"Sarah Palin, who ran on the Republican ticket against the Obama-Biden team in 2008, raised the pitch of her unofficial campaign for the White House in 2012 on Sunday and tore into the president for 'selling out' American allies, especially Israel.

'So while President Obama is getting pushed around by the likes of Russia and China, our allies are left to wonder about the value of an alliance with our country any more. They're asking what is it worth,' she said in a fiery speech in Virginia.

'Do they think, really, that we're getting anything in return for all this bowing and kowtowing and apologizing? No, we don't get anything positive in return for this,' the former governor of Alaska added."

(NEWS) PA Power Blackout Of Gaza Ignored By Most Countries

"Gaza residents have been without electricity for most of the day this week due to the Palestinian Authority’s halt in fuel shipments through Israeli crossings. Unlike their reaction to previous blackouts allegedly caused by limited Israeli shipments of diesel, the international community generally has remained silent.

The PA in Ramallah, headed by the Fatah party, is demanding back payment of millions of dollars for electricity. The rival Hamas party, which controls Gaza, claims that most of the money wasn’t paid because it is used for operating costs of the Gaza generator."

(NEWS) Despite Wider Remit, Soldiers Won't Be Questioned In Gaza Flotilla Probe

"Turkel's demand for wider powers comes amid widespread media criticism that has painted the committee as being designed mainly to retroactively justify the blockade of Gaza.

The panel investigating last month's botched raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla will soon receive greater authority after its chairman, retired justice Jacob Turkel, told the government the committee could not do its job without expanded investigative powers.

Channel 2 television reported last night that Turkel even threatened to resign if his demands were not met. A spokesman for his committee, however, denied this."

"Cartoon shows an aid ship apparently bound for Gaza being grabbed by an octopus carrying an Israeli flag with a Nazi swastika in place of the Star of David symbol.

The Israeli embassy has sent a complaint to the newspaper of Egypt's ruling party about a cartoon that linked Israel and Nazis, an unusual step from a mission that tends to ignore its Egyptian media critics.

Al-Watani al-Youm (the National Today) published a cartoon on June 15 showing an aid ship apparently bound for Gaza being grabbed by an octopus carrying an Israeli flag with a Nazi swastika in place of the Star of David symbol."

(NEWS) Hamas Doesn't Have Gazans' Best Interests At Heart

"Gaza's power plant hasn't been working for the past three days due to a dispute between the PA in Ramallah and Hamas in Gaza.

This story will probably not receive much coverage by the international media. This story is not a matter of black and white, "David versus Goliath" – there aren’t bad Israelis versus good Palestinians. What there is, however, is more proof that the Hamas government doesn’t really have the Gaza residents' best interests at heart, while the Palestinian Authority too cares more about money than Gazans' interests.

But because Israel is not involved in this affair, the United Nations has not held an emergency session to discuss the matter, the (non-Palestinian) Human Rights organizations will overlook it and Israel will continue to be held completely responsible for the siege on Gaza."
